Wireless Remote Control Unit
Wireless Remote Control Unit – WRCU
(Not availlable till at least september)
Wireless CCU to control Shading for Ursa Mini, Broadcast, Studio camera, microstudio camera’s via SDI input from a Blackmagic Design ATEM Switcher.
Wireless control and tally of your Blackmagic Design Ursa cameras via your ATEM software or via the ATEM Camera Control Panel.
The WRCU ( Wireless Remote Control Unit ) is a 2 part system.
The TX side has an SDI input which will accept up to 3G-SDI Program signal from the Atem.
Internally strip of the CCU control data. for the chosen Camera ID. And convert this to our BroadcastGear CCU protocol to send wireless.
The RX side is a Vlock unit which will dock on the back of the Ursa camera. And receive the wireless data from the TX side. Convert the data back into BMD Control protocol and send out an SDI signal for camera control on SDI Return feed.
The Transmitter reads the SDI ANC data for camera control and Tally.
Reads the Data for the selected camera ID and converts this SDI Control Data to our wireless CCU Camera Protocol.
Connect this output to the SDI IN from the camera and it will be controlled wireless from the Atem.
On the Transmitter you can configure the Camera ID to listen to and Wireless communication channel for the WRCU.
Transmitter has a SDI Loop output to send data to the next unit or monitor.
Ethernet and Hirose connector are for future functionality.
Unit is powered by a 12V 1A power supply ( Not supplied!! ) BMD mini converter compatible.
Vlock Receiver will pass power from Battery to the camera.
USB-C is for future FW upgrades.
Ethernet and Hirose connector are for future functionality.
3,5mm jack is an External tally output and is designed for use with the Datavideo TD-3 Tally light. (Not supplied but can be ordered as optional )

FAQ
Can i also transport video or intercom?
No, it does not carry video or intercom trough the wireless link because every company uses a different Intercom system and has different needs for their video TX. Some need to cover a full stadium, others needs a HD short range connection. So this solution is camera control and tally only!
Does the WRCU also support other cameras?
Yes the WRCU support multiple camera protocols at this moment. But those are in a Beta stage and currently undocumented.
But we have been testing with JVC, Sony S700, and others. If you want to use this please contact us to discuss the options.
How stable is the RF link?
The WRCU is engineered for reliable, stable wireless performance — even in demanding RF environments.
Unlike competing products that rely on Wi-Fi technology, the WRCU uses a dedicated Narrowband RF chip operating on just 1 MHz of bandwidth. This narrow footprint makes it significantly easier to find and hold a clean frequency, reducing interference from other spectrum users and improving overall link stability.
Rather than pushing the full ATEM protocol over Wi-Fi — a method prone to instability — the WRCU encodes the SDI signal’s ANC data into a lightweight, purpose-built protocol optimized for low-bandwidth RF transmission.
Range is rated at 150 m / 500 ft, but this is a conservative figure. The unit has been tested and proven well beyond that distance, including in large stadium environments. Actual range will always depend on the local RF environment, but you can expect real-world performance to exceed the published spec in most conditions.
My production runs 4K, but the WRCU only accepts HD input?
If you run a 4K enviorement you need to down convert the 4K PGM return from the Atem to HD to work for the WRCU.
The potential problem is that not all 4K > HD conversions keep the ANC data in the output. Down conversions with preservation of ANC data include:
- Teranex AV
- Teranex Express
- Teranex mini 12G > Quad ( output A )
- BMD Ursa Fiber Camera converter Return 1 / 2 / 3 output ( convenient to place the TX in your Venue )
Can i add an external Tally light to the WRCU?
Yes the WRCU RX camera side has an optional tally output on 3,5mm jack. It supports to plug in a Datavideo TD-3 Tally light. Also custom lights can be made possible if following the schematic of the TD3 light. Tally light is not included in the box of the WRCU.
